Abstract:
The development of disability sport is of great significance in safeguarding their equal rights, promoting their inclusive development, and advancing the sharing of socio-economic achievements for people with disabilities. Since the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the development level of disability sport in China has rapidly improved, showcasing the institutional advantages of China in promoting the development of disability-related initiatives. At the national level, it has been proposed to integrate disability sport into the national mass fitness strategy, aligning with the international concept of “social inclusion in sport for people with disabilities” that budded in the early 21
st century. Some foreign countries have continuously explored and practiced through policy and legislative measures, organizations and structures, as well as the participation of people with disabilities in mainstream sports, leading to theoretical and practical achievements in the social inclusion in sport for people with disabilities. Based on foreign experiences and lessons learned, suggestions are made to promote the integration of disability sport into China’s public service system for mass fitness by strengthening top-level design and overall planning, leveraging community platforms, improving accessible sports and fitness information services, and creating a social atmosphere that understands, respects, and supports disability sport and fitness activities, among other aspects.
