Abstract: Sports integration within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area constitutes a vital component of national strategic deployment, undertaking multiple missions encompassing coordinated regional advancement, consolidation of regional cultural identity, and quality improvement and efficiency enhancement of regional economic development. Centered on the thread of historical evolution, this paper traces the institutional exploration and social integration achievements accumulated throughout the 40-plus years of the Guangdong-Hong Kong Cup, and expounds its historical significance as the embryonic prototype of sports integration within the Greater Bay Area. Adopting the standpoint of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, this paper systematically elaborates on the development philosophies and practical pathways for advancing the sports industry and mega-event economy. Drawing on the joint staging of the 15th National Games of China across Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao as its analytical anchor, this paper encapsulates the pioneering achievements delivered through cross-regional synergy. This paper advances four targeted developmental strategies: entrenching institutional legacies accumulated from sporting events, optimizing cross-regional collaborative governance mechanisms, maximizing the efficacy of integrated resource deployment, and fostering a high-calibre talent hub for sports professionals. This paper furnishes theoretical foundations and implementable frameworks to advance in-depth sports integration within the Greater Bay Area, thereby facilitating the development of a world-class sports bay area.
