Abstract: Higher-level development of rural public sports service is an important measure to promote in-depth development of the National Fitness Strategy and the Rural Revitalization Strategy, and an effective pathway to meet the growing needs of residents in rural areas for a better life in the new era. From the perspective of empowerment through digital technologies, this study presented the development history of rural public sports service and elaborated on empowerment through digital technologies for higher-level progress of rural public sports services, and analyzed the epochal value, real difficulties and implementation pathways of such empowerment. The study arrived at the conclusion that the epochal value of empowerment through digital technologies for higherlevel development of rural public sports service has both theoretical and applied values. The study then revealed the challenges of such empowerment, including a lack of policies and systems, the existing weak infrastructure, a low level of platforms, and serious left-behind phenomenon. Given these findings, the researchers proposed the following implementation pathways: improving policies and the institutional system, strengthening the digital infrastructure, facilitating the building of digital information platforms, and focusing on the left-behind segment of population.
