The Research Progress on the Effects and Action Mechanisms of High-Intensity Functional Training on Emergency Rescue Personnel

Abstract: High-intensity functional training(HIFT) is a functional strength training paradigm derived from high-intensity interval training and circuit training, performed at a workload that meets or exceeds the anaerobic threshold or maximum lactate homeostasis. In order to optimize the occupational physical performance of emergency rescue personnel through physical functional training strategies, we conducted a systematic review of HIFT definition, its effects on such personnel and the action mechanisms. After the literature review, we arrived at the conclusions that the effects of HIFT on the emergency rescue personnel include lower incidence of sports injuries, improved physical health, and enhanced emergency rescue capabilities and combat preparedness efficiency, and that HIFT produces effects by action mechanisms in three aspects: Hormone secretion and metabolic regulation, inflammatory response and immune regulation, and protein synthesis and expression. We recommend to build up on the current research findings and further studies in quantifying workloads and tasks of emergency rescue personnel, and to deepen the integration between practice and the scientific research in HIFT program designs for emergency rescue personnel.
