The Conceptual Construction, Cultural Essence and Multidimensional Characteristics of the “First Gold Spirit”

    • “The First Gold Spirit” is not only a shared ethos created and embodied by Chinese shooters, but also an integral component of Chinese sports spirit. Through literature analysis, expert interviews, and field research, this study explores the concept, connotations, and characteristics of “the First Gold Spirit”. The research defines “the First Gold Spirit” as the Chinese sports spirit created by Chinese sports personnel during international competitions in their pursuit of China’s first gold medal, characterized by core values including bringing glory to the nation, pioneering innovation, pursuing excellence, unity and cohesion, and striving for first place. The value of “bringing glory to the nation” manifests as shouldering mission responsibilities, courageously bearing heavy burdens, and maintaining composure under pressure. “Pioneering innovation” is demonstrated through fearlessness of risk-taking, courage to explore, and achieving pioneering breakthroughs. “Pursuing excellence” embodies dedicated focus, pursuit of perfection, and mastery of skills. “Unity and cohesion” are manifested as internal cohesion of beliefs, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and shared victory with one heart. The prominent feature of “the First Gold Spirit” is “striving for the first place”, which is embodied in the need for courage and confidence, genuine strength and inner confidence, as well as wisdom and bravery. These five connotations are logically interrelated and functionally supportive of each other, jointly forming a complete and multi-layered meaning structure. In terms of characteristics, “the First Gold Spirit” demonstrates not only macro-level breakthrough nature, pioneering quality, and leadership capacity, but also micro-level attributes of control, precision, stability, and transcendence. This study’s systematic interpretation of “the First Gold Spirit” not only enriches and expands the theoretical framework of the Chinese sports spirit spectrum, but also provides a transferable core value system and a motivational paradigm for the training and competition practices of the Chinese shooting team.
