Comparison of Laboratory-Based Gas Metabolism Systems and Portable Systems

    • Objective:The purpose of this study was to compare Cortex MetaLyzer 3B and Cortex MetaMax 3B test for gas metabolism and energy consumption during running and walking on treadmill in males, and evaluated the difference between portable systems and laboratory-based systems.Methods:15 males complete walking and running on the treadmill twice at 4.8km/h,6.4km/h,8.0km/h speed. The gas metabolism was measured by using the Cortex MetaMax 3B and Cortex MetaLyzer 3B.Results:1) O2,E of portable group measured data was higher than the data of laboratory-based group;2) At the rest, heart rate and energy cost values didn't change in the different sets, but the value in running and walking had difference. The data of portable group was higher than laboratory-based group.3) There is a linear correlation between data using two systems.4) ICC and Bland-Altman analysis between the two groups proved that there was a significant consistency in the data of two sets.Conclusion:1)The test results are significant difference between portable exercise systems(Cortex MetaMax 3B) and laboratory-based exercise systems(MetaLyzer 3B).2) Established a conversion formula for data of two sets by linear regression method, but the formula need to further for validation because of the small sample size.
