The Feature of Cognitive Processing during Serving-rotation Judgment of Table Tennis Players

    • Objective:This study explored the cognitive processing features of female table tennis players of different levels when they made judgement on table tennis serve-rotation.Method:Participants were the international top grade and the national second grade female table tennis players. The temporal occlusion method was used in the experiment.Result: The international top grade players exhibited higher accuracy and longer response time relative to the second grade female table tennis players. The information load primarily affects the serving judgment accuracy of table tennis players.Players of different levels distinguished in visual search. Conclusion: On speed-accuracy trade-off,the international top grade athletes tended to put more emphasis on accuracy. There were differences among the judgment on various spin: judgment on spin and side-top spin was more accurate than judgment on the no-spin and side-under spin. The information load affected the judgment accuracy :on the moment the ball touching the serving bat or the ball falling on the table of the serving side, athletes showed highest judgment accuracy for the side-under spin; When the ball falls to table on serving side, the accuracy of judgment in descending order were spin ball,side-under spin ball,no-spin ball.On the relationship of visual search and behavioral response, the international top players showed lower frequency of fixation, shorter saccade distance, higher accuracy and shorter reaction time while the national second grade players showed higher frequency of fixation, longer saccade distance, lower accuracy and longer reaction time.
