The Reliability and Validity of the 2×2 Achievement Goals in the Physical Education in Secondary School

    • This study was designed to examine the reliability and validity of the 2×2 model of achievement goals in physical education in middle school, and examined the validity of the model through analyzing the achievement goal group features.Participants were 930 students from middle schools in Anhui province. The results showed that 1) The model had good reliability, validity and invariance, which produced a accepted fit and it had produced effective scores in the survey;Resultsshowed that the model has good psychometric properties, and can be applied in motivation research in physical education setting.2) There were four different achievement clusters among students in middle school:mastery achievement goals, low achievement goals, moderate achievement goals, and high achievement goals profile; The students who in the same achievement goal group were similar about persistence and the degree of effort in physical education, the students who in different groups were differences about persistence and the degree of effort. The results further provided evidence of validity for this model.
