Abstract
Objective:To assess ambulatory physical activity (PA) behavior of the Shanghai children and youth.Method:Daily steps of 369children and youth (189boys, 180girls;9-17yr.old, mean age 12.81±2.60yr.old) , with a stratified random sampling method, determined by wearing a GT3Xaccelerometer for 7consecutive days except sleep.Result:The most active walking day is Friday (Mean±SD:9 031±3 148steps) , followed by Thursday (8 199± 2 406) , Monday (8 053±2 561) , Tuesday (7 630±2 104) , Wednesday (7 413±2 449) , Saturday (6 187±3 297) and Sunday (5 858±3 169) ;They walked more steps during week than weekend days (t=12.31, P<0.01, Effect size=0.86) , 8 099±1 915and 6 006± 2 869steps, respectively;Boys 7 948±1 780walked more steps than girls 7 048±1 618 (t= 4.59, P<0.01, Effect size=0.73) .Conclusion:According to commonly used health-related evaluation criteria, few children and youth of Shanghai met the recommendation of needed PA.
