Research on Relationship between the Competency Model of Chinese Athletic Coach and Coach’s Performance

In this paper, by combining quantitative and qualitative analysis, carried on the relationship between the Competency Model of Chinese Athletic Coach and Coach's Performance.18Competences extracted from 34related critical incidentd events by using the critical incidentd technique to interviewe 12elite athletic coach based on the analysis of coach's vocational features.The competency model of Chinese athletic coach was developed by means of exploratory analysis and confirmatory analysis with good reliability and validity.It empirically analyzes the correlation between the competences of coach and their performance, and distinguishes between position and individual characteristics of coaches' competency.This study shows that the model consists of four dimensions, namely the coaching skills, specialist knowledge, develop long standing relationships with athletes, personal traits, which derived from 18competences.There is a significant correlation between the competences of coach and their performance, and capable of differentiating elite coach from normal coach.There are some differences between the four dimensions of the competency model of athletic coach.
