Abstract
Athletes are often highly influenced by previous athlete's successful or failure performance. This study did two pre experiments and two formal experiments to investigate the moderating effect of previous athletes' successful and failure performance on ego-depletion effect. The results of experiment 1(n=68)showed that,in a no pressure condition, there was a little moderating effect of previous athletes' successful and failure performance on ego-depletion effect of a cognitive task. After watching other athletes' successful performance ego-depletion effect was not obvious. After watching other athletes' failure performance, however, egodepletion effect was more obvious. The results of experiment 2(n=65)showed that,in a pressurized condition, there was a large moderating effect of previous athletes' successful and failure performance on ego-depletion effect of a cognitive task. The results showed opposite direction from the experiment 1,i.e.,after watching other athletes' successful performance egodepletion effect was significant while after watching other athletes' failure performance ego-depletion effect was not significant. These findings indicate that the moderating effect of others' successful or failure information on ego-depletion effect depends on pressure condition.
