Abstract
Hepcidin is a main negative regulator of iron metabolism, which plays an important role in iron deficiency in athletes. Objective:The present study investigated the changes of Hepcidin concentrations in different exercise using Meta analysis. Methods:Searched related literature before April.2016 and identify including and excluding criteria. The serum Hepcidin concentrations in athletes before and after the endurance and acute exercise were selected, and then heterogeneity test, regression analysis for heterogeneity and publication bias were made.Results:11 studies were related to acute exercise including 135 athletes and 7 studies were related to endurance exercise including 88 athletes.Hepcidin concentrations were increased by 51.94% in acute exercise:(SMD=1.640,95% CI1.357,1.923,z=11.37,P<0.01).Hepcidin was increased by 25.13% in endurance exercise:SMD=0.863,95% CI0.550,1.177,z=7.24,P<0.01).Both Egger's and Begg's test revealed that there were no significant publication bias found. Conclusions:Hepcidin concentrations were increased both after acute and endurance exercise;the increase range in acute exercise was higher than that of endurance exercise.Iron supplementation would be helpful to maintain iron homeostasis in athletes.
