  • Mitochondria have been widely studied for their critical role in cellular metabolism,energy production and apoptosis.Mitochondrial dynamics is a research focus,and that process involves mitochondrial fusion and fission,which depend on cellular energy requirements and metabolic status.Mitochondrial fusion and fission have been observed in almost every cell type except adult cardiomyocytes,which easily develop a notion that mitochondrial dynamics is dispensable in the heart.Many studies have indicated that mitochondrial dynamics plays a crucial role in the maintenance of normal cellular homeostasis and cardiac function.Some studies investigated the effects of exercise on mitochondrial dynamics in skeletal muscle,and a few studies focused on cardiomyocytes.
