The Development of the session-RPE Method for Training Load Monitoring and Usefulness in Sports Training

    • session-RPE method(s-RPE) for training load monitoring was formally proposed by Carl Foster and his colleagues in2001. This tool takes into consideration both intensity and the duration of a training session, and both fatigue of physiological and psychological perceived exertion. It is a useful method for monitoring multiply types of exercise session including strength training session. That would assure the optimal training impulse and also reduce the risks of overtraining symptom for athletes. The purpose of this review is to retrieve the literature of the session-RPE method origining from the psychophysics, calculating methods, and the process of developing this technique. This study also reviewed the valid and reliable of this method in different sports and groups. The advantages and limitations of s-RPE method were also discussed. In the end, the review proposed some suggestions about using s-RPE as a simple, non-invasive and inexpensive method for quantitating training load evaluation.
