The Mission Retrospect and New Era Responsibilities of Chinese Table Tennis

Using the methods of text analysis and in-depth interviews, this research uses time as the context to sort out the historical changes of the national image of table tennis in our country, and summarizes experience and enlightenment, and deeply analyzes the various situations and missions of China's table tennis in foreign communication under the perspective of national image in the new era. Studies have shown that in different historical periods, China's table tennis sports have the following characteristics in showing our country's national image: 1) From 1949 to 1978, table tennis changed the world's impression of China's “sick man in East Asia”, showing China's independence, hard work, and great entrepreneurial spirit; 2) From 1979 to 2012, table tennis rushed to the top and integrated into the entire world, which has shown the national image of the revitalization, self-improvement and development of the Chinese nation since the reform and opening-up; 3) From 2012 to now, in the new era of socialism with Chinese characteristics, the table tennis culture has continued to innovate, leading the world table tennis with the concept of “sharing with the world”. The development of the movement shows the image of a modern socialist country with Chinese characteristics. The main achievements of table tennis since the founding of New China are: 1) guarding the glory of Chinese sports; 2) leading the development of Chinese sports; 3) enriching the connotation of Chinese sports culture; 4) setting up communication between China and the world 5) creating a road of exploration for the management system reform of a sports power. In the new era, the spread of China's table tennis culture should: 1) highlight the status of “national game” and support China's construction and development; 2)give full play to the function of education and promote the construction of healthy China; 3) use the table tennis platform to enhance the influence of Chinese sports in the world; 4) play down political factors and give full play to the role of table tennis in nongovernmental communication; 5) strengthen cultural expression and add spiritual motivation to the socialist modernization; 6) build a platform for the Table Tennis Super League and form a distinctive brand.
