Research on Countermeasures to Expand and Optimize China’s Sports Competition System Under the Background of COVID-19 Pandemic

    • The global pandemic continues to hit the world sports scene repeatedly in this moment, causing a serious impact on the international and domestic competition system. Based on the objective analysis of the impact of the COVID-19 on the holding of domestic and foreign sports events, and in line with the goal of building a leading sports nation, a new competition system covering four main work areas is proposed: 1) To improve the level of competitive sports of national teams, reference the event system of major international sports organizations, and promote the reform of China's competitive sports competition system by category; 2)with the goal of discovering and cultivating outstanding reserve talents, build a school sports competition system that integrates sports and education; 3) in the direction of projectization, normalization and life-oriented, build a more dynamic mass sports competition system; 4) to build a competition system to promote the high-quality development of the sports industry with the goal of activating and enabling, content-driven and ecological optimization. Further, it proposes to promote the establishment of a competition-driven new development concept for the whole industry from five aspects: 1) Fully mobilize the enthusiasm of governments at all levels to hold various sports events; 2) to consolidate the main responsibility of the national individual sports association to expand and optimize the competition system of this event; 3) support all kinds of market players to establish their own brand competitions; 4) to coordinate domestic resources for holding major international sports events, organize and support local governments to bid for and hold major international sports events in an orderly manner; 5) to formulate plans for the inability of Chinese athletes to participate in international sports events in a short period of time due to extreme circumstances.
