Design of Advanced Mode of Taijiquan Combat Competition

    • The loss of Taijiquan attacking and defensive function is the main problem in its long-term development. In order to solve this problem, based on nearly 20 years of practical exploration experience, our study designed the competition mode and rules of Taijiquan attacking and defensive combat from multiple levels through literature review, expert interviews, with the purpose with promoting the return of Taijiquan attacking and defensive function through actual combat. The design of the actual combat mode of Taijiquan should be based on the attacking and defensive style of “sticking and following” and technique of “lure the enemy in deep, concentrate forces and then annihilate them”. 2) According to the historical heritage of Taijiquan and the successful experience of the current combat mode, one basic and three level of actual combat modes can be designed. One base is Tai Chi push hands of most basic, and the three levels of actual combat modes are the Tai Chi Sanshou of primary level, the Tai Chi sword of middle level, and the Tai Chi spear of high level. Sticking, attacking and comprehensive, the above three kinds of actual competition rules should be included in each level of actual competition. 3) It has been verified that the above model not only shows the skills of Taijiquan in an all-round way, but also shows the characteristics of Taijiquan. It not only reflects the holistic view of Chinese traditional culture, but also transforms abstract and profound traditional philosophy into vivid and intuitive physical activity through teaching and competition.
