The Development of China’s Competitive Sports in the Context of “Two Major Trends”: Situation Analysis, Real Challenges and Innovative Strategies

    • The convergence of China's grand strategy for national rejuvenation and the unprecedented global transformations has presented new opportunities and challenges for the development of competitive sports in the country. This paper provides a systematic analysis of the emerging situation, the current challenges, and the innovative strategies for the development of competitive sports under the backdrop of “Two Major Trends”. This endeavor holds significant importance in effectively integrating competitive sports into the national strategic framework and expediting high-quality development. The researcher underscores that China's competitive sports development is now confronted with a complex and rapidly evolving international landscape of turmoil,as well as new challenges arising from the accelerated construction of a new pattern of domestic and international dual-circulation with the domestic circulation as the main body, national strategic adjustments, and the transformation of major social contradictions. The changing international landscape brings risks and uncertainties to training and participation in competitions. Shifts in the hosting cycle of major international events, adjustments in Olympic event programs, emerging trends in Olympic development, and increased competition among major nations exert fresh impacts on the competitive sports landscape. Additionally, competitive sports are facing inherent challenges in achieving harmony and synergy with the new phase of economic and social development, and in instilling sufficient intrinsic motivation to achieve national glory. The researcher proposed innovative strategies based on the “Two Major Trends” to address these challenges: Expanding the contemporary value of competitive sports and strengthening their comprehensive contribution to serving the country's core interests; leveraging the advantages of the “new comprehensive national system” to enhance governance capabilities in key areas and critical aspects of competitive sports; fortifying risk prevention and control during major event preparations by establishing a collaborative, procedural, and intelligent training and participation early warning mechanism; elevating the capacity of sporting events to garner national prestige, thereby reshaping the image of competitive sports through high-quality and efficient development; and enhancing the core competitiveness of exceptional athletes by nurturing multifaceted and innovative sports talents that align with the demands of the current era.
