The 15th National Games Propelling the Contribution of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to the National Development Plan: A Historical Process, Goals of Values, and Practical Pathways

    • The 15th National Games of the People’s Republic of China(the “15th National Games”) stands as a practical model employed by the Party and the government to propell coordinated regional development through major sporting events. Employing literature analysis, comparative analysis, and logical analysis methods, this paper scrutinizes the historical process, goals of values, and practical pathways of the 15th National Games in advancing the contribution of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area(the Greater Bay Area) to the national development plan. The study has found that Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao have undergone a historical evolution in the field of sports, transitioning from exploratory exchanges to extensive interactions, and from deep cooperation to coordinated development. The study posits that the 15th National Games holds significant contemporary value in fostering collective progress, mutual benefits, and regional cohesion within the Greater Bay Area. Presently, the world is undergoing unprecedented transformations, and event preparations continue to grapple with practical challenges, including differences in administrative management system, constraints in factor mobility and resource allocation, as well as disparities in cultural development and value concepts. In light of these findings, the following suggestions are proposed: 1) Establish a new paradigm for collaborative cooperation among the three areas, enrich the “one country, two systems” practice; 2) optimize the allocation of resources and factors, and stimulate new dynamics for coordinated regional development; 3) preserve the nation’s shared cultural memory and strengthen the consciousness of the Chinese nation’s community.
